What Is Amazon Japan, and How Is It Different?

What is Amazon Japan?

Amazon Japan, written Amazon.co.jp, is Amazon's Japanese site. The interface and the system are the ones you know, but it is a separate site from the American one or any other.

Each country has its own warehouses, sellers and prices. Something stocked in Japan is not automatically stocked elsewhere, and the same item rarely costs the same on two of them.

One advantage over most Japanese sites: there is a language toggle, so product names and specifications can be read in English.

What Thai shoppers come here for

The strongest categories are Japanese-language books and manga, figures, model kits, stationery, and anime collectables — many of them made for the domestic market only.

After that come homeware, kitchen goods, supplements and drugstore products, which often come in formulations or sizes sold nowhere else.

What makes people choose this over a resale app is that most of it is new stock with reviews, full specifications and a seller return policy — less risk on anything expensive.

New and used sit on the same product page

On Amazon Japan a product page usually carries both new and used copies of the same item, with a line stating how many of each are available — as on the manga sets, where new and previously owned sets are offered side by side.

Used stock here is not the same thing as a resale app. The sellers are shops, they have to grade condition against Amazon's own scale, and the return terms still apply, so the price comes in below new while the condition stays predictable.

What to watch is how small the gap sometimes is. When a used copy undercuts a new one by a few hundred yen, new is usually the better buy: no condition to gamble on, and the freight home costs the same either way.

Why many items ship inside Japan only

Not everything here is sold by Amazon itself. A large share comes from marketplace sellers, and each of them sets its own delivery conditions.

Most of those sellers restrict delivery to Japanese addresses. That is a seller restriction, not a property of the goods — and the rare or Japan-exclusive items tend to sit in exactly that group.

One more thing worth checking: the seller name and the estimated dispatch date. Some listings come from sellers outside Japan, and those take longer to reach the warehouse than the page suggests.

Ordering from Amazon Japan through Tama-Chan

Tama-Chan can order from Amazon Japan for you, including from the marketplace sellers that deliver to Japanese addresses only — the delivery address we use is our own warehouse in Japan, and everything ships home from there.

To start, copy the product link and send it to an admin on LINE. The team checks the price and the domestic shipping fee, then quotes a baht total before you commit.

To see which other Japanese shops can be ordered from, the list is in the Japanese shop directory; the rates sit on the service fee table.
